What is the Royal Academy?

The Royal Academy is a visionary initiative of His Majesty The King that is being developed as an enduring tribute to the unparalleled leadership and the rich legacy of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
The Royal Academy
The establishment of the Academy is a testament to His Majesty The King’s recognition of the critical role of education in enriching the lives of our people and society; nurturing successive generations of leaders; narrowing emerging economic and social disparities and building a strong, secure and prosperous nation.
The Royal Academy will strengthen and streamline His Majesty’s Kidu initiatives in education. The Gyalpoi Tozay scheme currently provides full support to 3,438 students from the most economically vulnerable families in schools and colleges across Bhutan. Furthermore, under the Kidu Scholarship program, 237 students have received support to pursue higher education abroad in eight different countries. These Royal initiatives have enabled children from the most humble backgrounds to continue their education, realize their full potential and pursue academic excellence.
